Between Volcano and Sea:
A Marillion Odyssey
Introduction
In November 2025 Marillion dropped a bombshell when they announced they would play at the historic Anfiteatro degli Scavi in Pompeii. Demand for tickets was extremely heigh so we, like thousands of others from all over the world, were more than nervous whether we would be able to get a ticket or not.
The presale was sold out in three minutes. Without doubt with 2800 extremely happy people but unfortunately we were not amongst them, leaving Vladi, Charl, Helma and myself devastated and in disbelief we had not been able to get a ticket, the first time in our history of Marillion concerts.
Some days later though later I received a message from one of my Marillion friends who got me in touch with someone who had, by mistake, placed two successful orders for tickets. A day later I was in possession of two much eagerly desired tickets for the now sold out gig. Although with mixed feelings that Charl and Helma were not able to join us the both of us were extremely happy.
The Anfiteatro degli Scavi in Pompeii is without doubt one of the most mythical venues on earth. Covered by ash in 79 AD after the Vesuvius eruption it was immortalised in 1971 when Pink Floyd recorded their concert film at this location. Now, 55 years later we would be able to witness the best band in the world perform in this iconic venue.
It did not take long before Vladi and I decided this opportunity was too good to be true so we made a two week trip out of it and included Naples, Capri and the Amalfi Coast to our itinerary with Pompeii as the unmistakable highlight.
